Minerva McGonagall – Maggie Smith
Maggie Smith has had so many rewarding roles on the English stage, film, and television throughout the years that Queen Elizabeth II appointed her a Dame in 1990. In the Harry Potter film series, she played Minerva McGonagall, and in Downton Abbey, she played Violet Crawley. She has stated that she is grateful for these parts, but that they were not enough creatively challenging for her. It could be because she is constantly cast as a “spiky elderly lady.” She is now working on A Boy Named Christmas.
