Reports differ about what happened during Dawn’s show with Tilikum
Nobody knows what happened at the Dine with Shamu show. Tilikum allegedly grabbed Dawn Brancheau’s ponytail and dragged the orca trainer into the water as she was resting on her face, according to SeaWorld. Other people who were present for the show, however, have conflicting recollections of what transpired when Dawn died. Many people in the audience believe she was pulled beneath the water by her arm rather than her hair. Whatever the case, everyone knew something bad was about to happen. Dawn had gone from putting on a spectacular display as usual to finding herself in a fight she would never win.

While the Dine with Shamu audience had hoped for a performance, they had no idea what was about to happen in front of their eyes. Unfortunately, the SeaWorld tragedy was about to become something no one would ever forget, as they had front-row seats to Dawn Brancheau’s death at the hands of Tilikum. As the orca began to fling her body about in the water, the trainer was already drowning. When they finally recovered Dawn’s body, they discovered she had a severed spinal chord, cracked jaw, broken ribs, and dislocated joints. Dawn had been scalped, and she had died as a result of her injuries.
