Doubt and Darkness
Cheri couldn’t shake the unsettling suspicion that something more evil was at work. Cheri was unable to get rid of the feeling of betrayal despite Jenna’s admission and the agreement at Starbucks. After their kids were sleeping one late-night, Cheri plucked up the strength to approach Jason. He was absorbed in his phone when she discovered him seated in their dimly lighted living room. As Cheri drew near, his look swiftly changed from amazement to worry.

She replied, “Jason, we need to talk,” her voice quivering with a mixture of fear and resolve. Jason raised his head, worry visible in his eyes. Cheri took a long breath, trying to calm her anxiety. “What’s wrong, Cheri? Is everything okay?” Jason’s heart started to accelerate as he said, “I need to know the truth, about you and Jenna. She mentioned you.”
