A Baptismal Font

Owned Since: 1840
Valued At: $2,500*

Known as the Lily Font, in 1840, Queen Victoria first requested this large, silver baptismal font for her first child’s baptism. The project was commissioned by Edward Barnard and Sons, a firm of silversmiths. The Lily Font is made of gilded silver, which looks golden. Three winged cherubs are at the font’s base. When designing the font, Prince Albert helped. The Lily Font was used to baptize all of the Queen’s children and grandchildren, except Princess Eugenie. The Lily Font is stored in the Tower of London’s Jewel House as an official part of the Royal Collection.
