When he got to Los Angeles, he showed a buddy a snapshot of Amal from their vacation and felt he had to propose. “I had a picture of her looking back, smiling at these giraffes, and I said, ‘I think I’m going to ask her to marry me,” he told The Hollywood Reporter later. Naturally, the star acted quickly to put his plan into effect. Celebrity proposals are frequently grandiose affairs, but that’s not how the Clooneys do things. Instead, George kept things private between the two of them and gambled on a romantic meal at home.
