Ise Grand Shrine, Japan
The Ise Grand Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Ise, Japan. It is devoted to the sun goddess Amaterasu and is considered Japan’s most revered Shinto shrine. It is thought to have been built in the third century and rebuilt every 20 years since 690 AD.
Only The Emperor Can Enter
It is unique in that it is the only shrine in Japan that is not available to the public, with only the Emperor and his family permitted entry. This is because it is thought to be the resting place of the Imperial family’s ancestral spirits.
