Unfortunately, given its cultural and spiritual significance to Aboriginal people, it is no longer open to the public. It’s now a protected area, and visitors are requested to respect the land’s traditional owners.

Heard Island is an uninhabited, remote island in the Southern Indian Ocean. It is Australia’s only active volcano and is home to a variety of unique animals. It also houses the Mawson research station, which was founded in 1947.
