When word of a popular item’s discontinuation reaches Costco, it often sends members and fans into a frenzy. Some of the products that have been phased out have sparked online petitions, while others have quietly vanished from store shelves or the food court menu. When a product enters the warehouse chain’s graveyard, there’s a good chance it won’t come back. Take a moment to reflect on the Costco items that have come and gone over the years — some of which have been removed for a good reason. Here are 21 items that Costco decided to discontinue.
Half-Sheet Cakes
To the growing list of things canceled at COVID-19 this year, add Costco’s iconic half-sheet cakes. In the spring, the warehouse chain put these tasty slabs on hold. Half-sheet cakes were a popular choice for birthday parties because they were cheap to feed up to 50 people. The company told Delish that it has no plans to bring back the fan-favorite in the near future. Instead, Costco has been recommending its 10-inch round cakes, which serve about a dozen people, as a better fit for today’s socially isolated gatherings.
