32. Israel Finds New Dead Sea Scrolls – 75 Years Later
Location: Murabba’at Caves, Nahal Darga Reserve, Israel
Year Discovered: 2021
Est. Value: Priceless
Although historically and spiritually significant artifacts are frequently found in Israel, it’s reasonable to assume that nobody anticipated this. The Israeli Antiquities Authority said that it has discovered fresh Dead Sea Scroll fragments after a thorough, extensive investigation of the Judean Desert—the first discovery of its kind in sixty years. Parts of the books of the twelve minor prophets, which included Zechariah and Nahum, were included in these new scrolls. The recent find was believed to be a component of the Minor Prophets, a scroll containing End-of-the-World prophecies that was discovered in the early 1950s. The scorching, arid environment in which the fragments were discovered allowed the Scrolls to endure for thousands of years.
33. WWI Soldier’s Love Letters Found Hidden in Wall
Location: U.S.
Year Discovered: 2014
Est. Value: N/A
The ferocity of the armaments and the death toll from World War I led many people to fear that life as they knew it was coming to an end, which made the period extremely traumatic for communities everywhere. The only things that soldiers fighting in the brutal conflict had to cling to were their comrades in arms and letters from family members back home. A man discovered 1918 love letters from World War I in his attic wall while digging his house. A man named Clement wrote the letters to Mary, his sweetheart. Thankfully, Clement’s family was located by homeowner Phil Mathies, and they were able to verify that Clement did, in fact, wind up with Mary following the War.
