At the age of 24, he was the first African American and the youngest person ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Producer for Boyz n the Hood in 1991. Singleton’s other credits include 2 Fast 2 Furious, Shaft, Higher Learning, Poetic Justice, and Rosewood, a 1997 film. Since his life support was cut off days before the stroke, Singleton died in April 2019.
