Kenneth reassures Lyla
Kenneth made an effort to reassure Lyla as he thought about Scooter’s behavior. “Lyla, we need to stay focused,” he said gently. “Let’s try to understand what he’s trying to show us.” Lyla looked at him, tired and worried. “How can you think of that?” she asked incredulously. Kenneth took a deep breath. “Because it might lead us straight to Pablo,” he replied seriously. Lyla was silent for a moment, then nodded hesitantly. “All right,” she finally said, “but I still can’t trust him.”

Kenneth recognized Scooter’s unwavering determination and decided to keep a close eye on him. “Let’s see what he’s up to,” he said to Lyla. Together they watched as the dog ran purposefully across the yard, clutching the sticks tightly. “What’s he trying to do?” Lyla murmured skeptically. Kenneth sensed a glimmer of hope. “I think he’s trying to show us something,” he said. “We should follow him.” They both exchanged a serious look, sensing that perhaps this was the clue they had been waiting for.
