Ravaux had made a big mess to get the other owner to clean up, one commenter rightly observed. That might even be illegal and the new owner could sue him for doing that on his property. But Ravaux was a shrewd man with a few tricks up his sleeve. He had made sure that the new tenants, and not their landlords, were responsible. To avoid trouble, he had also made sure his actions were legal
