Ethics

We would recognize Selleck as an admirable man, even if he had his fair share of scandals. This is because he strongly believes in ethics. “I try very hard to conduct myself in an ethical way because that’s important to my stability now,” he explained. “We’re a culture that’s so centered on the individual. The culture says that basically nothing is more important than the way you feel.”

How Selleck carried himself even when the situation is not favorable for him is something we can learn from. In 1992, he was awarded a Razzie award for being the Worst Supporting Actor for his role as King Ferdinand of Spain in Christopher Columbus: The Discovery. Following the award, in 1993, he appeared as a guest-star on The Chevy Chase Show on Fox. There was a skit wherein he had to receive the Razzie award on air. Selleck did not make a big deal out of the situation and asked the studio audience to “blow me a raspberry.”
