Three Shopping Centers
Owned Since: Unknown
Valued At: Over $2 billion*
The Crown Estate portfolio encompasses a wide range of assets, including retail and leisure properties. The Queen is free to shop whenever she wants. The retail portfolio generated over $2 billion in sales. The Crown Estate estimates over 100 million shoppers to visit its shopping centers this year. There are 17 shopping centers in total, with a total of 7 million square feet of land leased. Because 10% of the portfolio is still “under development,” these figures are likely to increase.
All the Swans on the River Thames
Owned Since: 15th Century
Valued At: $130,000*
The Queen was born in 1926, but her obligation to own all of the swans dates back to the 15th century. Every one of the “unclaimed mute swans” on any water in England and Wales belong to Her Majesty. With a swan costing around $300, this little nest egg is worth around $130,000. Swans were a delicacy back then, so this was one of the Royals’ most impressive collections. This isn’t the case any longer. The Queen conducts an annual swan count to ensure that their numbers remain stable.
