She was pitted against tennis legend Bobby Riggs at the 1973 “Battle of Sexes.” Her winner led her to fame and earned her some cash. King was the first ever female athlete to publicly admit that she was gay. Only six years later, she divorced her then married Larry King. King belongs to the prestigious International Tennis Hall of Fame.
