Staying away from the baby
At home, the child avoided interacting with the newborn, preferring to stay in his room or play outside. ‘Aren’t you curious about your new sister?’ his mother inquired. His response was curt: ‘That’s not my sister. The boy’s words rang in his father’s head. He didn’t understand why his normally inquiring youngster was so emphatic. ‘What if he’s correct?’ the father wondered, unease seeping back in.

The father chose to show the youngster infant images of himself and his wife. ‘Maybe this will help him realize the resemblance,’ he reasoned. He took out the family albums and summoned his son over. ‘Let’s look at some images,’ he suggested, flipping through the pages. The boy stared intently, pointing out recognized people. ‘Do you see anything remarkable in these photos?’ the father inquired, hoping for a breakthrough.
