Our Favorite Harry Potter Stars: Where Are They Now?

Published on 05/14/2021

Almost all of us had watched the Harry Potter series when we were young. In fact, it wouldn’t even be much of a stretch to say that it’s become a big part of our younger years! Which begs the question, how exactly are the cast of this show doing nowadays? Well, you’re in luck as we’re here to show you how the cast of Harry Potter has been doing ever since the show ended! Many of them have experienced unusual career twists and turns. It’s incredible to see how drastically the lives of the Harry Potter stars have changed.

Scarlett Byrne As Pansy Parkinson

Scarlett Byrne began her acting career before she was cast as Pansy Parkinson, a supporting character. The character appeared in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 as a ruthless Slytherin. Since then, she’s appeared in films such as Falling Skies, Runaways, The Vampire Diaries, and Skybound. Stick and Poke, a short film about the art of the hand-poked tattoo, is currently in development by Byrne. She’s also expecting her first child with Cooper Hefner, the heir to the Playboy fortune, whom she married in November 2019.

Matthew Lewis As Neville Longbottom

Matthew Lewis, who began acting at the age of five, landed the role of Neville Longbottom when he was 12 years old. In the first few films, Neville Longbottom was an awkward, clumsy boy who magically transformed into one of Gryffindor’s bravest. Fans were astounded by the actor’s transformation from a goofy-looking kid to a poster boy in real life. Since then, he has appeared in films such as The Syndicate, Bluestone 42, Me Before You, and Terminal. He even appeared in A Band of Buriers’ music video for “Filth.”

Emma Watson As Hermione Granger

Emma Watson won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Muggle-born Hermione Granger, the brightest and most compassionate witch of her generation. Emma Watson went on to star in films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women after the Harry Potter films. During this time, she also earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature and became a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, launching the HeForShe campaign. She encourages boys and men to support gender equality.

Jason Isaacs As Lucius Malfoy

Jason Isaacs excels in the role of a criminal. With his luscious mane of white-blonde hair, ornamental cane, and condescending voice, he played the aristocratic patriarch Lucius Malfoy to chilling perfection in the Harry Potter films. Jason Isaacs, like Evanna Lynch, was enamored with the books and read four of them in one sitting. He has played villains in The Patriot, Brotherhood, and The Death of Stalin since Harry Potter. He’s also appeared in shows like Awake, Dig, and Scoob.

Daniel Radcliffe As Harry Potter

At the age of 11, Daniel Radcliffe took on the role of Harry Potter, and his life was forever changed. He’d gain notoriety and fortune from the role, but he’d also face backlash. His performance in the third film was panned as “wooden” and “bland” as a child, but by the fifth film, he was winning awards. Radcliffe has since starred in a variety of films, including the horror sci-fi Victor Frankenstein and the comedy-drama Swiss Army Man, demonstrating his versatility as an actor.

Harry Melling As Dudley Dursley

Harry Melling comes from a family of actors, and his role as spoiled cousin Dudley Dursley may not have made the best use of his acting abilities. He has since lost weight, allowing him to pursue roles that are very different from Dudley Dursley’s. Since then, he has appeared in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, where he received critical acclaim for his performance. Melling has also appeared in films such as The Lost City of Z and fantasy television shows such as Merlin.

Dean Thomas was played by Alfred Enoch when he was only 13 years old. Following the Harry Potter films, the English-Brazilian actor rose to prominence after portraying Wes Gibbins in the legal drama How to Get Away with Murder. Tom Felton As Draco Malfoy

Draco Malfoy is to Slytherin what Harry Potter is to Gryffindor. In The Half-Blood Prince, he may have had his darkest moment when he assisted in the death of Dumbledore. To be fair, it was all part of a larger plan against Voldemort, so we can probably forgive him. Felton may not have been able to match his role as Draco in terms of fame, but he has appeared in other major film franchises, including the recent Planet of the Apes reboot series.

Hugh Mitchell As Colin Creevey

Remember the young photographer who was completely enamored with Harry and would not miss an opportunity to gush about him? We’re talking about Colin Creevey, of course! In the film, he played all of us Potterheads. Hugh Mitchell has kept a low-key acting career in the post-Harry Potter era, starring as Silas in The Da Vinci Code and in other British hits like Wallander, The White Queen, and others. Hugh has stayed true to Colin’s passion for photography, as evidenced by his Instagram account!

Robert Pattinson As Cedric Diggory

Although Robert Pattinson was mocked for playing vampire Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga, he was praised for his role as handsome Hufflepuff prefect Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter before that. He’s had a remarkable acting career since then. With outstanding performances in films such as Remember Me, Water for Elephants, and The Lighthouse, he has quickly established himself as a serious actor. His most recent role is as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming film The Batman.

Robert Pattinson As Cedric Diggory

Rupert Grint As Ron Weasley

Without his best friend, Ron Weasley, Harry Potter would not have accomplished half of what he did. When all was said and done, the quintessential sidekick from the most lovable family in the entire story was by Harry’s side every step of the way and even ended up with Hermione. Rupert Grint is slowly establishing himself as a respected actor, with recent appearances on shows such as Sick Note, Snatch, and Servant.

Michael Gambon As Albus Dumbledore

Sir Michael John Gambon played Professor Albus Dumbledore in the last few Harry Potter films. He nailed the role of the legendary powerful wizard with a sharp mind and a kind heart. The British-Irish actor can be seen in The King’s Speech, Fortitude, Judy, and Cordelia, so you can see what he looks like without the long white mane and beard. When he’s shaved, he looks completely different. He is currently starring in James and Lucia, a film about James Joyce.

Fiona Shaw As Petunia Dursley

Fiona Shaw, an Irish actress, portrayed Aunt Petunia Dursley in the Harry Potter films. She expertly elicited deep resentment by mistreating her nephew Harry Potter, whom she despised because he came from a magical world in which she was unable to participate. Her outstanding performances in Killing Eve, for which she won a BAFTA and Fleabag, have earned her a slew of new fans and two Emmy nominations.

Warwick Davis As Professor Flitwick

Although English actor Warwick Davis sounds like a wizard, he played Professor Flitwick, the Charms Master of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in the Harry Potter films. In Return of the Jedi, he played an Ewok, and in the Leprechaun film series, he played a leprechaun. Warwick Davis, who was born with a rare form of dwarfism, founded the talent agency Willow Management to ensure that actors under the height of five feet were properly represented.

Evanna Lynch As Luna Lovegood

Evanna Lynch, unlike the other Harry Potter actors, had no prior acting experience when she was cast as Luna Lovegood in the final four films. Following the completion of the films, the Irish actress appeared in My Name Is Emily, Danny, and Madness in the Method.

Gary Oldman As Sirius Black

Gary Oldman portrayed Sirius Black, a fearful wizard with a tormented past as a result of his time in Azkaban, the wizarding prison. He has appeared in over 50 films. No one knows what Gary Oldman looks like because he’s so skilled at changing his appearance to match the character he’s playing. His villainous roles in True Romance, The Fifth Element, Air Force One, The Contender, and Léon: The Professional are notable examples. Can we add Sirius Black to that list?

Domhnall Gleeson As Bill Weasley

Despite the fact that Domhnall Gleeson is only in his 30s, the Irish actor has already starred in several award-winning films. Of course, he is best known as Bill Weasley, the Weasley siblings’ oldest, coolest, and most attractive sibling. He’s also appeared in films such as About Time, Anna Karenina, Never Let Me Go, Frank, and Unbroken. He is currently starring in the comedy series Run this year. He may still feel overshadowed by his father, actor Brendan Gleeson, despite being named one of Ireland’s greatest actors.

David Tennant As Barty Crouch Jr.

If you’re a fan of Doctor Who, David Tennant will be familiar to you, but did you know that he also played the villainous Barty Crouch Jr. in the Harry Potter films? If you recall, Barty Crouch Jr. was a Death Eater who pretended to be Alastor Moody to lure Harry Potter to his death. Kilgrave, a fictional superhero in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, is another villain played by the Scottish actor. Broadchurch, in which he plays police detective Alec Hardy, is another film in which he has appeared.

Rubeus Hagrid may have made him an international star, but the Scottish actor had prominent roles in other films before and after Harry Potter, including two James Bond films, Brave, Great Expectations, and National Treasure. He now has a son and a daughter, and the Queen has awarded him an OBE.

Maggie Smith As Minerva McGonagall

Maggie Smith, an Academy Award winner, has played so many memorable roles on the English stage, screen, and television that Queen Elizabeth II made her a Dame in 1990. In the Harry Potter film franchise, she played Minerva McGonagall, and in Downton Abbey, she played Violet Crawley. She has expressed gratitude for these roles but has stated that they were not creatively challenging enough for her. Maybe it’s because she’s always cast as a “spiky elderly lady.” A Boy Called Christmas is her current project.

John Hurt As Mr. Ollivander

One of the Harry Potter actors who has passed away is John Hurt, who played the mysterious Mr. Ollivander. Ralph Fiennes As Lord Voldemort

For most children born in the 1990s, Lord Voldemort was a terrifying villain. Ralph Fiennes gave a convincing creepy performance as him. Lord Voldemort may have been known as “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named,” but the English actor Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes cannot be identified because his full name is Ralph Nathaniel Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes. He has also given outstanding performances in Schindler’s List and The English Patient, in addition to Harry Potter. Other notable films in which Fiennes has appeared include In Bruges, The Reader, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Robert Hardy As Cornelius Fudge

Cornelius Fudge, played by Robert Hardy, was a powerful Minister of Magic who had complete control over the wizarding world’s main governing body. Robert’s role as a political figure, however, was not limited to the Harry Potter series. He was well-known for his portrayals of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, with whom he shared an uncanny resemblance. Robert Hardy died in August 2017 after a successful 70-year career in which he played memorable roles ranging from Shakespeare’s Henry V to Siegfried Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small.

Jamie Waylett As Vincent Crabbe

Jeff Rawle As Amos Diggory

“That’s my son! That’s my boy!” Those are the cries we all remember all too from Jeff Rawle, who plays Amos Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, does not get nearly enough credit for how much he steals the scene in which he reacts to his child’s death. His performance still makes our hearts ache. Jeff Rawle has appeared in a number of films and television shows since the 1970s. Drop the Dead Donkey, Hollyoaks, and Billy Liar are among his best works.

John Cleese As Nearly Headless Nick

Although John Cleese’s character “Nearly Headless Nick” was largely overlooked in the Harry Potter films, those who did notice his amusing portrayal of the Gryffindor ghost found it entertaining. He appeared in Monty Python’s Flying Circus, three Monty Python films, and the hugely popular Fawlty Towers series.

Dave Legeno As Fenrir Greyback

Although you can’t compare real-life Dave Legeno to his werewolf character Fenrir Greyback, you can’t deny that he’s a fantastic actor! Dave worked on some successful movies and TV shows during his brief career of only twenty years, including Batman Begins, The Raven, Bonded by Blood, and, finally, Last Knights, before tragically passing away in 2014 due to heatstroke. Dave was yet another great talent who was taken from us far too soon.

James Phelps As Fred Weasley

James Phelps played Fred Weasley, one of the iconic Weasley Twins. The two decided to skip school one day to go to the Harry Potter auditions. Aren’t we all incredibly grateful that they did? The roles were so true to their personalities that all they had to do was change their hair color from brown to ginger, and they were ready to go! James’s acting career was not limited to the franchise. He is still acting in TV shows and movies, combining mischief, comedy, and brilliance.

Oliver Phelps As George Weasley

Along with his brother James, Oliver Phelps was the other twin who played George Weasley. They’ve also “mischiefed” their way into our hearts. Even after the series ended, the famous duo found it difficult to work separately and continued to work together in shows and films such as Kingdom, Danny and the Human Zoo, and others. On the other hand, Oliver eventually decided to stop acting and now works as a travel and sports blogger, as well as a web content creator.

Stanislav Yanevski As Viktor Krum

Victor Krum was played by Bulgarian actor Stanislav Yanevski. He made his first appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and his strong build immediately won the hearts of many of the ladies. We were all in awe as he escorted Hermione to the Yule Ball. After Harry Potter, Yanevski had a relatively low-key acting career. He only appeared in nine episodes of Undercover and three episodes of Sofia Residents in Excess on television. This summer, he’ll be in Orlando for LeakyCon.

Kenneth Branagh As Gilderoy Lockhart

If there was one constant in the Harry Potter films, it had to be the introduction of a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in each installment. Kenneth was one of the most notable additions to the franchise’s crew of British actors when he was brought in for The Chamber of Secrets. He directed and starred in a number of Shakespearean adaptations, including Henry V, Othello, Hamlet, and others, for which he received numerous nominations for Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Afshan Azad As Padma Patil

Afshan Azad’s role as Padma Patil in the Harry Potter franchise was brief, but she did justice to the shy character. Fans were disappointed when she announced that she would no longer pursue acting after Harry Potter. In her defense, she had to manage her personal life while dealing with domestic issues with her own brother. She did, however, maintain a positive relationship with the cast, and co-stars Bonnie Wright and Kattie Leung even attended her wedding in 2018.

Shefali Chowdhury As Parvati Patil

Shefali Chowdhury played Parvati Patil in three of the eight Harry Potter films. In The Goblet of Fire, she made her first appearance, looking stunning for the Yule Ball. She returned for the sequels, The Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince. Shefali, like her in-film twin sister’s actor, Azad, did not continue her acting career. She has only appeared in three short films since Harry Potter, two of which were released in 2015 and one in 2019.

David Thewlis As Remus Lupin

Remus, the ferocious wolf, may have appeared to Harry as an adversary in The Prisoner of Azkaban, but he quickly became a close ally. Surprisingly, David Thewlis originally auditioned for the role of Peter Pettigrew but was cast as Remus instead. Since his time as Remus, Thewlis has remained active in film and television, starring in films such as Wonder Woman. In season three of Fargo, he played the villain VM Varga, who was a major character. Avatar 3 will also feature Thewlis.

Katie Leung As Cho Chang

Harry develops a strong bond with Cho Chang early on in the story, to the point where they have a steamy kiss in The Order of the Phoenix! Also, right in front of Cedric Diggory’s portrait! To be honest, the Harry Potter films are the most well-known works Chang has worked on. She did, however, have a minor role as a nurse in the film T2 Trainspotting. Since then, she’s done a lot of theater work.

Timothy Spall As Peter Pettigrew

Brendan Gleeson As Mad-Eye Moody

It’s not just Domhnall Gleeson who was involved in the Harry Potter series. Brendan Gleeson, who played the eccentric Mad-Eye Moody in the films, had an even bigger part in them. Unfortunately, Alastor dies in Part 1 of The Deathly Hallows while assisting Harry in the Battle of the Seven Potters. Brendan Gleeson has remained active in the acting world despite his sons having nearly eclipsed him in terms of fame. Calvary, Edge of Tomorrow, and Paddington 2 are just a few of the films in which the Irish actor has appeared.

Jim Broadbent As Horace Slughorn

Horace Slughorn appears to be a friendly wizard at first glance, and he is. However, it is quickly revealed that the potions master was the one who informed Voldemort about Horcruxes while he was still a student. Jim Broadbent has landed a minor role in another fantasy series, this time on television, since Harry Potter. In Season 7 of Game of Thrones, he played Archmaester Ebrose. He’s also appeared in films like Brooklyn, Paddington, and, most recently, a King Lear adaptation.

Bonnie Wright As Ginny Weasley

While many fans of the books and movies expected Harry to marry Hermione, it was Ron’s sister, Ginny Weasley, who would eventually win Harry’s heart. Bonnie Wright hasn’t exactly built on her acting career since her time as Ginny Weasley, unlike many of her co-stars from the Harry Potter film franchise. She has, however, been keeping herself busy by directing a number of music videos.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin As Young Tom Riddle

While Ralph Fiennes’ performance as Lord Voldemort was unforgettable, the film also featured some talented young actors who played younger versions of the dark lord. Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who happens to be Ralph’s nephew, was one of them. Hero Fiennes Tiffin starred alongside Kathrine Langford’s sister Josephine in the romantic drama After a few years after his time as Tom Riddle. Despite the fact that the film was panned by critics, it was a box office success, and Tiffin will reprise his role in the upcoming sequels.

Julie Walters As Molly Weasley

This pureblood witch is in charge of the Weasleys, arguably the most powerful wizarding family in the entire story. She most recently starred in a remake of The Secret Garden, alongside Colin Firth and others.

Rhys Ifans As Xenophilius Lovegood

To be fair, Rhys Ifans appears late in the game, in The Deathly Hallows Part 1 as Xenophilius Lovegood. He does, however, teach Harry about the symbol after which the film is named, so he plays a significant role in the plot. Ifans had roles in films like The Five Year Engagement and The Amazing Spider-Man shortly after his time in the Harry Potter series. He’ll play Rasputin (of all people) in The King’s Man in 2021.

Natalia Tena As Nymphadora Tonks

Metamorphmagus Nymphadora Tonks was an Auror who fell in love with a werewolf named Remus Lupin and died in the final war alongside him. She preferred to be addressed solely by her surname and wore her hair short, spiky, and bubble-gum colored. Nymphadora Tonks was one of Harry Potter’s coolest characters, made even cooler because the lead singer of Molotov Jukebox, Natalia Tena, played her. She has acted in several notable roles in addition to this one. This includes her role as Osha, a wildling in the critically acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones.

Josh Herdman As Gregory Goyle

In the Harry Potter films, Gregory Goyle played a gormless goon, but Josh Herdman is a mixed martial artist in real life. He became an actor in the same way that his father, Martin Herdman, did, but he also pursued a separate career. Josh chose MMA over his father, who was a rugby league footballer. Chris Rankin As Percy Weasley

Chris Rankin, who starred as the pompously-reformed Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter films, has largely retired from the acting business. Instead, he moved into the production industry, where he worked as a production coordinator on shows such as Atlantis, Downton Abbey, and A Discovery of Witches. The Hollywood Show’s parody of Sherlock, in which he appeared as Mycroft, was his only other appearance. The opportunity to meet Rankin is now available to all interested parties. Rankin Weasley can be found at a variety of fan conventions throughout the year, just like his fellow Weasley brothers.

Freddie Stroma As Cormac McLaggen

Freddie Stroma may not have played a significant role in the Harry Potter films, but he left an indelible mark on the series. His less-than-subtle romantic advances towards Hermione in Half-Blood Prince, which Stroma played with the perfect balance of charm and slime, are difficult to forget. As a result of her performance in Deathly Hallows, Stroma has appeared in Pitch Perfect, Game of Thrones, Unreal, and is set to appear in Bridgerton, which will premiere later this year and star, Julie Andrews.

Jessie Cave As Lavender Brown

Jessie Cave’s performance as Lavender Brown in Half-Blood Prince was so memorable that it’s no surprise that she’s had so many roles in various films and television shows since the end of the Harry Potter series. The films Great Expectations, in which she co-starred with Ralph Fiennes in 2012, as well as Pride, Call the Midwife, and Father Brown are some of her most notable accomplishments. It just so happens that her next project is titled The Potters, though there isn’t much information available about it at this time. Beyond acting, Cave also published a book of cartoons in 2015, some of which were subsequently turned into greeting cards.

Tiana Benjamin As Angelina Johnson

For the first three films, Angelina Johnson was played by a different actress each time (Danielle Tabor). Tiana Benjamin was cast in Goblet of Fire, despite the fact that it was her only appearance in any of the Harry Potter films. Louis Cordice As Blaise Zabini

According to the internet, he is no longer acting, which is fine. Even his only acting role is that of a Slytherin in the Harry Potter series, he’s doing quite well for himself in this industry. In fact, his Instagram bio (which is unfortunately private, as if he wants “privacy” or something,) reads, “Just that guy from Harry Potter,” which is accurate.
