Magnetic levitation trains have been studied and developed for around 100 years. After all, they are an essential part of the urban transport system in South Korea, Japan and China. The Maglev system also uses magnetic fields to enable vehicles to float. They are often used as high-speed trains or even for extreme roller coasters. In the case of this Maglev Air Urban Transport, the aim was to create a cross between a plane and a train. As for the future of this project, it could indeed be of interest to many large cities

It was developed as part of the Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence program. The hybrid aircraft made its first test flight in 2006. A single unit is expected to cost around €40 million. This cost is particularly high considering that the company lost out to Northrop Grumman. Despite this, the aircraft was not scrapped, but converted into a civilian cargo plane, which now bears the name SkyTug.
