Imagine growing up in a one-bedroom cottage with 11 other siblings. Dolly Parton often recalls her humble beginnings with nostalgia. “Every night, the kids used to pee on me. We shared a bed with three other people. In the dead of winter, it was the only source of warmth we had. In a 1978 interview with Playboy magazine, Parton claimed, “It was almost a pleasure to get peed on because it was so chilly.”

Sewing Her Toes Back On
Parton’s toes were nearly torn off when she was barely six years old. She landed on a broken Mason jar while jumping over a fence. When her father picked her up off the ground, her right foot’s small toes were nearly severed. Fortunately, her astute mother applied cornmeal on her toes to absorb the blood. Her father then used kerosene to disinfect the foot.
