Year Discovered: 1974
Est. Value: $4.5 million per warrior*

When digging a well in 1974, Chinese laborers found thousands of figures made of terracotta clay, all outfitted for combat. In 1987, the Terracotta Army—as it is now called—was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Army was discovered close to the mausoleum built for the first Chinese emperor, Qin Shi Huang. The figures are a complete duplicate of all the warriors of the king and are incredibly detailed. Only 2,000 of the 8,000 terracotta soldiers have been discovered through excavation. The warriors were created to guard the emperor in 210 B.C. on his ascension to the afterlife.

17. Swedish Scientists Reveal Findings of Deep-Sea ‘Alien’ Hunt

Location: Baltic Sea
Year Discovered: 2015
Est. Value: Unknown

Finding something strange and eerie sounds like a potential goal for a deep-sea alien search. When Swedish scientists carrying out this kind of expedition found what many believed to be a spaceship buried deep under the Baltic Sea, they did not let anyone down. The explorers are unsure of the precise nature of this anomaly, despite their denial that it was a starship. It was a “natural geological structure,” according to Peter Lindberg, the head of the Ocean Explorer team. Lindberg said that this unusual shape wasn’t an alien spaceship because it was “not made of metal,” a claim to which many people retorted, “Who said extraterrestrial spaceships have to be built of metal?”
