Exploring a distant jungle in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province, environmentalists found the world’s largest flower bloom. It’s the Rafflesia tuan-mudae species of flower, renowned for its enormous, elusive blossoms that open for barely a week at the end of the plant’s life. With a 3.6-foot diameter, this enormous blossom was the biggest Rafflesia ever measured. The flesh-colored petals of the flower, speckled with white, make it simple to identify. Given that the flower belongs to the “corpse flower” category of flora, which implies that it smells like a dead body, this unfavorable description is accurate.

Cart attendants drove the bewildered fish to Baby Beach, where they released it back into its proper habitat after placing it in a bucket of sea water.

The Namibian Desert is arguably the last place you would think to look for a ship. However, that is where the remains of the Bom Jesus were discovered, believe it or not. This Portuguese ship sank off the coast of Namibia five hundred years ago, making it disappear. The Bom Jesus reappeared as the waves off the coast retreated. It was headed for India when a strong storm caused it to capsize, taking with it valuables including copper and gold ingots. After the ship was found by diamond miners, the Namibian government dispatched a team to locate the debris. On the Bom Jesus, two thousand pure gold coins and tens of thousands of pounds of copper ingots were found, nearly entirely undamaged.

In the center of France sits a maze called the Paris Catacombs. The city needed a better place to store the deceased, so it constructed the Catacombs. Therefore, starting in the late 1700s, Paris decided to empty dead into five-story underground tunnels. This backdrop adds an even unsettling element to the discovery. A completely functional movie theater was found in August 2004 by Parisian police conducting a training exercise in one of the Catacombs’ previously unexplored chambers. An amphitheater was created by carving terraces into the rock. Inside was a full-sized movie screen, projection equipment, and a selection of thriller and noir films. It appears that someone only wanted to set up their own eerie, private theater because the films were neither unpleasant nor prohibited.

One of Pat and Diane Farla’s guests at their Good Friday celebration in Shropshire, England, finally chose to peek behind the six-foot-long rectangular plate hanging on their wall. Unbelievably, in the three years they had owned the house, they had never looked behind that. They found a hole that led to a little underground chapel after removing the plate. There were pews and a cross on the cellar-like structure, indicating that it was a religious structure. Authorities surmise that during one of the numerous religious battles that raged in England centuries ago, congregations fleeing religious persecution may have used this underground chapel.

They identified the GJellestad Ship, located in Norway, using the same deep-radar approach.

The kunai grass and mire had kept it well-preserved when it was found in 1972. When the Swamp Ghost was discovered, the cockpit still contained coffee thermoses. That’s how intact it was. Some sources estimate that a WWII plane in this condition would be worth approximately $9 million.

The house was burnt but amazingly well-preserved due of the ash left behind by the fire, which stopped the ruins in their tracks.
