A few years ago, on the desolate beach of Point Woronzof, near Anchorage, some Alaskans were surprised to discover a group of eerie figures loitering in the ice and snow. They appeared to be actual people in difficulty from a distance. But as it happened, Sarah Davies’s uncanny forms were actually an art project. According to Buzzfeed News, Davies erected more than 85 distinct humanoid sculptures that symbolized the “physical encapsulation of hundreds of unique experiences of vulnerability,” all of which were inspired by her personal experience with an unidentified illness.
