Just then, Paul, our ever-friendly neighbor, appeared, waving from across the fence. “Hey there, Jason! It’s been a while! Missed seeing this guy around,” he said, nodding at Rocky, his familiar grin warm and welcoming. Rocky wagged his tail, greeting him like an old friend. “Hey, Paul! Yeah, I just got him back today,” I replied, stepping closer to the fence. Rocky seemed to relax, comforted by the familiar presence. Paul always had a way of making everything feel like home.

“How’d you find him?” Paul asked, genuine curiosity bright in his eyes. “Marla called from the shelter,” I explained, absently scratching Rocky’s ears as he soaked up the attention. Paul nodded, a look of understanding spreading across his face. “Must’ve been quite the surprise!” he said with a laugh. I chuckled, “You have no idea. It’s like finding a missing piece of myself.” Rocky leaned into my side, and I realized the feeling of restoration was mutual.
