Dismissed Again
Jacob’s reaction was painfully familiar, as though my discovery were nothing more than a minor inconvenience he wished would disappear. He accused me of overthinking and ordered me to drop it, his voice cold and final as he waved me away. Every attempt I made to reach him felt like slamming into another brick wall, higher and thicker than the last. Walking out of the room, I felt the familiar heaviness settle on my chest. His refusal to engage left me isolated, desperate, and certain that I couldn’t unravel this truth on my own.

Dismissed Again
Turning to Laura
Still shaken, I clutched my phone and called Laura, needing a steady voice to ground me. The words tumbled out as I explained the paternity test I had found and the confusion tearing through me. She listened quietly, her silence filled with surprise and concern. When she finally spoke, her tone was careful, reminding me that digging into Jacob’s secrets could have serious consequences. She urged caution, knowing his temperament all too well. Though her warning unsettled me, I felt grateful to have someone who truly heard my fear and uncertainty.
