Drawing Brighter Pictures
One evening, as Sarah sketched at the table, I noticed her drawings had shifted. They now showed sunshine and cheerful scenes instead of the unsettling ones from before. “These look wonderful,” I said encouragingly. Sarah’s grin widened. “I like making happy pictures now.” The joy in her expression showed she felt safe with the lock and our support. Emily noticed as well, and later at dinner she remarked, “It feels like peace has finally returned to our home.”

They believe that?” I asked in disbelief. Sarah nodded, her eyes wide. “They say it gives them powers.” I exchanged a look with Emily, both of us realizing just how much these bizarre ideas were influencing our family and affecting Sarah in ways we hadn’t expected.
