Tonya Harding
Tonya Harding was a figure skating darling. She is the first American woman who successfully completed a triple Axel in a competition. However, in 1994, she got involved in controversy with her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly. He planned an attack on U.S. figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, who was Harding’s skating rival. The attack was intended to injure Kerrigan and keep her from competing in the championships. After the attack, Harding was banned for life by the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
